Smile Like You Mean It

Earlier this week, The Killers announced a surprise gig at the Commodore the day before their headlining date at Pemberton. Naturally, I had to get a ticket and was lucky enough to nab one when they went on sale. Friends had told me they couldn't get anything once the clock hit 10:02 and that's actually crazy!

When Friday rolled around, I honestly couldn't contain my excitement. The Killers are one of my all-time favourite bands and have been since I first found out about them in Grade 7. I used to collect newspaper clippings with any mention of them and added them to a scrapbook. Brandon Flowers was the first man on my Future Husband list. My third concert ever was The Killers back in 2005. Safe to say, I was very excited.

The show at the Commodore last night was beyond. To see them in such a small venue (in comparison to the larger venues they typically play now) was such a once-in-a-lifetime thing and I felt so lucky to have been there. The setlist was filled with many of my favourite tracks and I sang my heart out to each and every one.

But the biggest highlight of my evening? Meeting the one and only Brandon Flowers! Jason, Liz, Donna, Geoff and I made our way to the back alley after the show ended and waited patiently for the band to come out. Only Brandon did, but it was more than I could ask for.

I asked him to sign my 10-year old issue of SPIN with The Killers on the cover and he was so surprised that I had a copy of it. I was also lucky enough to get a photo with him as security had been telling everyone that he only had time for signing something or getting a photo with.

Last night was one of the raddest nights I've had in the past while and I don't think I'll ever forget it.
